A hit-and-run is when a vehicle does not stop after hitting someone or something. This is considered a crime.

It is important to remind young and new drivers (as well as those who’ve just arrived from other countries) that they are legally obligated to stay at the scene of an accident they are involved in; otherwise, the penalties would be far more serious.
