flu

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is caused mainly by two types of viruses: Influenza A and Influenza B. Both types can lead to severe illness and death, especially among older adults and young children. Influenza A is generally more widespread and associated with higher mortality, but recent studies show that Influenza B also causes significant hospitalizations and deaths, particularly in children.

In Los Angeles County during the 2024-2025 flu season, there were over 20,000 confirmed cases and 289 influenza-related deaths, including pediatric fatalities, marking one of the highest flu mortality rates in recent years.
