Brom or brum is a novel benzodiazepine, similar in structure to alprazolam (Xanax).

Out of over 160,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, flubromazolam first appeared in 2019. Bromazolam by itself was first mentioned in the first half of 2021.

Since 2021, bromazolam has been mentioned as a cause of death about two dozen times.
