RIP CHASE PHILLIP POWELL (May 9, 1984 – December 28, 2023)

The decedent had barricaded himself along with his 5-year-old daughter in the 3400 block of Adriatic Avenue. After a standoff that lasted close to 10 hours, both father and child were found dead.

It appeared the girl was shot dead by Powell, who then offed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot.

According to the Long Beach Police Deparment, the case is classified as an “in-custody death.”

“LBPD Policy Manual … defines an in-custody death as `a death which occurs at any point in time when a person’s freedom of movement has been denied by law enforcement, such as during arrest, detention, attempted arrest, attempted detention or while confined in any law enforcement vehicle or facility.’ Given this was an attempted arrest, the department has classified this suicide as an in-custody death.”
