(L.A.) Aspen Powell, 5, Died From a Gunshot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 5-year-old female that occurred in an ambulance [sic].

The coroner’s office has identified the child as Aspen Powell and listed her race/ethnicity as Black + Hispanic.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head

RIP ASPEN POWELL (July 31, 2018 – December 28, 2023)

Long Beach Police Department said their officers had been sent to an address on the 3400 block of Adriatic Avenue at around 2:40 p.m. for a domestic dispute. They found smoke coming out of the building and evacuated the neighborhood.

After a nearly 10-hour standoff with police, the girl’s father fatally shot her before killing himself.

The father was 39-year-old Chase Phillip Powell.

The child’s mother was already in mourning following the recent passing of her own father.
