iatrogenic

Iatrogenic deaths, particularly those resulting from surgical procedures, represent a significant concern in modern medicine. Defined as deaths caused by medical treatment or intervention, these fatalities can arise from various factors, including surgical errors, complications from anesthesia, and postoperative infections.

In the United States, estimates suggest that iatrogenic events may account for as many as 225,000 deaths annually, with a substantial portion linked to surgical procedures. Common causes include unnecessary surgeries, medication errors, and hospital-acquired infections.
