RIP LAURA AYALA DELGADO (June 10, 1959 – September 2, 2023)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 5:27 p.m.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published in June the following year.
A silicone embolism happens when silicone, typically from cosmetic implants, enters the blood vessels and causes a blockage.
In a review of 33 cases from 1965-2004, the mean age of women diagnosed with silicone embolism was 31 years (range 21-58 years). The most common sites of silicone injection were the breasts and buttocks/hips/thigh area.
The last time the medical examiner published a case of silicone embolism was in 2018 when a 25-year-old died. It’s considered an accident because it was neither a natural death nor an intentional death.
