(L.A.) Daniel Welch, 23, Died in a Vehicle

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 23-year-old Black male that occurred in a vehicle.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Daniel Welch of Long Beach, California.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Chest

Other Significant Conditions: Blunt Force Injuries of the Lower Extremities

RIP DANIEL LE SHAWN WELCH (August 8, 2000 – September 2, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.

The decedent was fatally shot while driving in a business area of Compton.

LASD stated the shooting happened at around 12:58 p.m. near the 1400 block of North Long Beach Boulevard, north of Rosecrans Avenue.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Welch was shot while driving at the intersection of Bullis Road and Rosecrans Avenue. The vehicle continued a short distance until crashing head-on into another vehicle on Long Beach Boulevard. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
