(L.A.) Tavio Hobson, 39, Ended His Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 39-year-old Black male that occurred at his place of residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Tavio Hobson.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Diphenhydramine Toxicity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 4:20 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on January 4, presumably after the results of tox screening came back positive for the drug.

Diphenhydramine is commonly seen as the over-the-counter drug Benadryl. Although diphenhydramine is regarded as a safe medication, it shows dose-dependent toxicity. High intake is associated with death.
