The coroner’s office has identified the man as Sergii Kovalchuk.

Decedent was employed as a welder, an occupation associated with chronic inhalation of manganese-containing fumes that have been documented in peer-reviewed literature to cause neuropsychiatric effects including depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, hallucinations, and cognitive impairment, with studies reporting elevated rates of depression and anxiety among exposed workers and progressive symptomatology correlating with cumulative exposure even at levels below federal safety limits; accordingly, occupational manganese neurotoxicity is noted as a potential contributing factor to the decedent’s mental state and should be considered in conjunction with any toxicological and neuropathological findings.
