(L.A.) Ricardo Ramirez, 18, Died From a Gunshot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 18-year-old Latino male.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Ricardo Ramirez.

RIP RICARDO RAMIREZ (June 28, 2006 – July 13, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 10:52 p.m. in a hospital.

The decedent was unarmed when he was shot by an undercover Los Angeles police sergeant.

Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez Jr. was shot by Sgt. Michael Pounds at around 10:30 p.m. while the plainclothes vice officer was conducting a prostitution enforcement detail along South L.A.’s Figueroa corridor. Pounds, who never identified himself as LAPD, shot the young man from behind his car’s dark-tinted driver’s side window.

Paramedics would take Ramirez to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The young man was in town from Northern California after graduation. He had just visited the Santa Monica Pier.
