(L.A.) Phillip Peña, 75, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 75-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Phillip Peña.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Pulmonary Thromboemboli

Cause of Death B: Deep Vein Thrombosis of Leg

RIP PHILLIP PEÑA (February 5, 1950 – December 9, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday morning.

The decedent had been arrested by LASD on October 4 for assault and apparently was being held at Men’s Central Jail in downtown L.A.

At some point, he was transported to L.A. General Medical Center, and it was while he was there confined in the ICU that he died.

He is LASD’s 43rd in-custody death for the year.
