(L.A.) Kevin Lu, 21, Died on the 60 Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 21-year-old Asian male that occurred on the Pomona Freeway.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Kevin Lu of Walnut.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt-Force Traumatic Injuries

Other Significant Condition: Thermal Burn Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 4:55 a.m.

The decedent was one of two men who died when a truck smashed into a stopped sedan, flipped below a bridge, and caught fire on the Pomona (60) Freeway in South El Monte.

They were Kevin Lu, 21, of Walnut and Rufino Mireles Ramirez, 44, of Fresno.

California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 4:30 a.m. on the eastbound 60 Freeway at Peck Road.

The truck, loaded with cantaloupes, ended up under the freeway in flames.

Guardrails were melted in the incident.
