RIP EVODIA MATA (May 6, 1968 – July 21, 2024)

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on August 11.
Decubitus ulcers, also known as pressure ulcers, bedsores, or pressure sores, are localized injuries to the skin and underlying tissue. They occur due to prolonged pressure on the skin, often over bony areas such as the back, tailbone, hips, buttocks, elbows, heels, and ankles.
The primary cause of decubitus ulcers is prolonged pressure that reduces blood flow to the skin, leading to tissue damage and death. Friction, moisture, and shear forces can also contribute to their development. Individuals who are immobile, bedridden, or use wheelchairs are at higher risk, as are older adults and those with certain health conditions that limit mobility or blood circulation.
Sepsis resulting from bacteremia associated with decubitus ulcers occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream from an infected pressure ulcer, leading to a systemic infection.
