(L.A.) Emily Beutner, 22, Ended Her Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 22-year-old White/Caucasian female that occurred at Palmdale Regional Medical Center.

The coroner’s office identified the young woman as Emily Beutner of Pacific Palisades.

Cause of Death: Effects of Mitragynine, 7-Hydroxymitragyinine, Quetiapine, and Mirtazapine

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the death on January 14. The cause was announced on March 20 after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab.

Mitragynine is the most abundant active alkaloid in the Southeast Asian plant Mitragyna speciosa, commonly known as kratom.

Quetiapine is an antipsychotic medication commonly known as Seroquel, and mirtazapine is an antidepressant sold as Remeron. Both carry black-box warnings about an increased risk of suicidality.

The decedent was the daughter of L.A. mayoral candidate Austin Beutner, who has since withdrawn from the political race. He should bring suit against the doctor who prescribed the two drugs.
