RIP DAVID JOSEPH SAFAR (August 10, 1978 – May 10, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
The decedent was born in Damascus, Syria. He was a Christian of the Syriac Orthodox Church.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on August 12, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.
Cocaine abuse can lead to acute cardiovascular events, including aortic dissection and myocardial infarction, which may cause pericardial effusion and subsequent tamponade. The rapid accumulation of fluid in the pericardial space restricts the heart’s ability to fill properly, leading to decreased cardiac output and fatal hemodynamic compromise.
