Case Number: 2024-19395

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 42-year-old Hispanic female that occurred at a Park-and-Ride lot.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Verenice Arellano.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Ethylene Glycol, Hydroxyzine, and Quetiapine Toxicity

RIP VERENICE ARELLANO (April 1, 1982 – December 11, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 1:01 p.m.

Commonly found in antifreeze, ethylene glycol is highly toxic to the kidneys when ingested.

The combination of ethylene glycol (causing metabolic acidosis and renal failure), hydroxyzine (causing CNS and cardiac depression), and quetiapine (causing CNS depression and cardiac effects) is highly lethal. The additive effects on the central nervous system and the heart, along with the specific organ toxicity of ethylene glycol, would rapidly lead to multi-organ failure, coma, and death without aggressive medical intervention.

Park-and-Ride lots provide parking spaces for commuters to park and meet their carpool or vanpools, or for commuters making transit connections.
