Vaccinated Student Dies after Medical Emergency During Basketball Tryouts

A 17-year-old Michigan student has died after experiencing a medical emergency during basketball tryouts.

Jaylen Lee Mitchell, a senior at YCHS Stemm Middle College in Ypsilanti, was taken to the hospital after suffering a medical emergency during the tryout.

He died Monday night (Nov. 15), according to the school.

Jaylen Lee Mitchell was born on the 4th of July, 2004. He wore #52 for the Grizzlies.

Atticus Carridine, a quarterback at the high school, confirmed that Mitchell was vaccinated.

Service for the deceased will be on November 20, 2021, at St. John’s Baptist Church, 866 Monroe Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
