Compton Creek encampment
Compton Creek is the last major tributary to enter the Los Angeles River before it reaches the Pacific Ocean. It flows through and around the city of Compton, draining a watershed of over 42 square miles.
The creek begins near South Main Street in Los Angeles, passes through Willowbrook, and runs 8.5 miles, mostly within a concrete flood control channel, before merging with the Los Angeles River.
The creek supports some native plants and wildlife, and efforts have been made to restore its natural habitat and improve water quality. It is also home to recreational spaces like the Compton Creek Bike Path and Compton Creek Natural Park, which offer green space and community amenities in an urban setting.
