(L.A.) Richard Cobbs, 71, Died at the VA Medical Center

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 71-year-old Black male that occurred at the West L.A. Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Richard Cobbs.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Condition: History of Cancer, Not Otherwise Specified

President Trump signed an executive order on May 9, 2025, to create a center for homeless veterans on the West Los Angeles VA campus, which will offer homeless veterans housing, healthcare and support services, including substance abuse treatment and job training. The goal of the center, which he named the National Center for Warrior Independence, is to house 6,000 veterans on the property by 2028.
