RIP RENAE MCWAINE (April 30, 1992 – April 30, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 3:42 a.m.
The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on September 16.
Status asthmaticus involves severe bronchospasm, airway inflammation, and mucus plugging that does not respond to standard asthma treatments. This leads to progressive respiratory failure as the airways become increasingly obstructed.
The immediate causes of death in status asthmaticus are typically:
1. Respiratory failure – The airways become so constricted and blocked that adequate gas exchange cannot occur, leading to hypoxemia (low blood oxygen) and hypercapnia (high blood CO2).
2. Cardiac arrest – Severe hypoxemia and acidosis from respiratory failure can trigger cardiac arrhythmias and arrest.
