(L.A.) Rebecca Tanis, 39, Ended Her Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 39-year-old Caucasian female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Rebecca Tanis, resident of Westgate Apartments in Pasadena.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Clonidine Toxicity

Other Significant Condition: History of Depression

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 8:33 p.m. She expired at Huntington Memorial Hospital located at 100 West California Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105.

Clonidine, sold under the brand name Catapres among others, is an α₂-adrenergic agonist medication used to treat high blood pressure, ADHD, drug withdrawal, menopausal flushing, diarrhea, spasticity, and certain pain conditions. It is used by mouth, by injection, or as a skin patch.

There are at least five records in the medical examiner’s office that mention clonidine.
