(L.A.) Palliyaguruge Perera, 55, Died in Sylmar

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 55-year-old Asian male that occurred on a highway in Sylmar.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Palliyaguruge Perera.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt-Force Traumatic Injuries

RIP PALLIYAGURUGE PERERA (December 5, 1969 – March 17, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 10:25 a.m.

The decedent jumped from an overpass onto the 210 Freeway near Hubbard Street at around 10:15 a.m.

CHP Newhall Area responded to find his body lying in the freeway lanes.

His name suggests he may have been of Sri Lankan descent (from Sri Lanka). The Department of Medical Examiner has stated he was homeless.
