Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Lassen Street for a two-vehicle collision at around 7:53 a.m.
The government investigator had initially given the decedent’s name as Ahmad Mirza Fahim.
The decedent was actually from Bangladesh, a country that is in South Asia. This is a fact unknown to most U.S. government employees, including investigators at the coroner’s office who get paid $160,000 a year in salary.
According to Bangladeshi media, Fahim moved to the U.S. with his mother, father, and brother about a year and a half ago. Their home is in the Zigatola area of Dhaka. He had recently traveled back to his home country during Eid al-Adha, where he got married. After returning stateside, he applied to the immigration department to bring his wife to the U.S.
CCTV footage showed that Fahim’s car was hit by two other vehicles, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a light pole. The front of the car was completely crushed, trapping him inside. Police and fire department personnel struggled to extricate him from the wreck.
A local who left a comment on the video below stated, “I witnessed this accident. My car was at the front waiting for the light to turn green. The car that hit the pole was hit by another car that was making a left turn, heading north on Reseda Blvd. The driver turned left too quickly clipping the end of that car, causing this fatal accident. The driver that died had the right of way.”
