RIP MICHAEL EPSTEIN (April 10, 1990 – June 9, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 3:14 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published in September, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drug.

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as MDMA or ecstasy, is a synthetic drug that alters mood and perception. It is known for its stimulant and empathogenic effects, which can lead to feelings of euphoria, emotional closeness, and enhanced sensory perception. MDMA is often used recreationally at parties, concerts, and festivals.

Chemically, MDMA is a derivative of both amphetamine and mescaline. It works primarily by increasing the release of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the brain. This neurotransmitter release is associated with mood elevation and altered sensory experiences.
