Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a Hispanic female that occurred in a hospital.
The coroner’s office has identified the infant girl as Lluvia Espino.

Cause of Death: Alström Syndrome

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday.
The child was about three and a half months old.
Alström syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the ALMS1 gene, affecting multiple organ systems with progressive vision and hearing loss, childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiomyopathy.
Symptoms often begin in infancy, starting with cone-rod dystrophy leading to nystagmus, photophobia, and eventual blindness by the teens or early adulthood.
