(L.A.) Leandro Maza, 31, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 31-year-old Hispanic male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Leandro Maza, resident of Long Beach.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Stab Wound of Chest

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:53 p.m.

The decedent was a tourist from Argentina who was stabbed at 2015 Linden Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90806. He expired at Memorial Care Medical Center, a hospital located at 2801 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, 90806.

Edson Rufino, who was 19 at the time of the crime, was found guilty by a jury in July 2021 of one count of murder and two counts of assault with a knife, as well as one misdemeanor count each of contempt of court and resisting arrest. His case was appealed and in November 2023 a higher court sent it back down on a technicality, subject to a possible retrial.
