(L.A.) Lawrence Gonzales Jr., 39, Died in a Hospital

The coroner’s office identified the man as Lawrence Gonzales Jr. Born in L.A. County.

Height: 6 feet 4 inches / Weight: 265 pounds

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Penetrating Gunshot Wound of Head

RIP LAWRENCE WILLIAM GONZALES JR. (July 2, 1986 – December 31, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday in a hospital.

This was the New Year’s Eve police shooting in San Pedro.

LAPD NARRATIVE:

Officer-Involved Shooting in Harbor Division NRF075-25bb

On December 31, 2025, at around 9:40 p.m., Harbor Patrol Division uniformed police officers responded to a radio call for an unknown trouble, possible restraining order violation, at an apartment in the 500 block of West 37th Street. The residence was identified as a special location with Communications Division. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who advised the officers that the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Lawrence Gonzales, was inside her apartment.

The officers contacted Gonzales inside the apartment, and he refused to comply with the officers’ command to turn around and place his hands behind his back. The officers approached Gonzales who physically resisted their efforts to detain him. The physical resistance escalated into a violent confrontation where Gonzales attempted to disarm the officers resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported Gonzales to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
