(L.A.) Joshua Aila, 17, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 17-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the teen as Joshua Aila.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Penetrating Gunshot Wound of the Neck

Formal pronouncement of death was made early Saturday morning.

The decedent was a senior at East L.A. Renaissance Academy, part of Esteban E. Torres High School No. 2.

LASD said the boy was shot at around 1:15 a.m. in the area of Sixth Street and Fraser Avenue, near James A. Garfield High School.

A family member said he was out getting food at that hour.
