Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 61-year-old Latino male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Jose Martinez Herrera.

Cause of Death: HIV-Related Wasting Syndrome

HIV WASTING SYNDROME

Wasting syndrome refers to unwanted weight loss of more than 10 percent of a person’s body weight. Once lost, the weight is difficult to regain.

The condition may occur in people with advanced HIV disease and can be caused by many things: HIV, inflammation, or opportunistic infections.
