Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 56-year-old Caucasian male that occurred at a residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as John McCauley.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Effects of Tramadol and Methemogobinemia [sic]

Methemoglobinemia or MetHb is a rare blood disorder that affects how red blood cells deliver oxygen throughout the body. Not everyone has symptoms, but nearly all people with this condition have skin, nails or lips that are a distinctive shade of blue or purple. In some cases, methemoglobinemia can be life threatening.
