(L.A.) Joel Reyes Pizarro, 37, Died on a Sidewalk

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 37-year-old Latino male that occurred on a sidewalk in Boyle Heights.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Joel Reyes Pizarro.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Blunt-Force Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 6:16 a.m.

Initial reports by mainstream media outlets stated that the decedent was shot to death. On August 26, however, the Deparment of Medical Examiner stated that his fatal injuries were from blunt force.

He was discovered by firefighters responding to a report of a person down at around 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Marengo Street and Evergreen Avenue.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 4 and 6 a.m. Pizarro was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple wounds, and investigators supposedly found at least eight shell casings at the location.
