RIP JIE ZHAN (September 1, 1988 – February 12, 2025)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 1:37 p.m.
The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on February 27.
Colchicine tablets are a type of prescribed medication primarily used to treat gout. It is so toxic that one can fatally overdose by ingesting just a dozen tablets.
Excessive ingestion of colchicine appears to be common in China, with case reports about it. The decedent’s name appears to be mainland Chinese.
Out of over 160,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, we’ve seen only four other records mentioning colchicine — three of them suicides, one with an undetermined manner of death.
