(L.A.) Gustavo Esparza, 26, Ended His Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 26-year-old Caucasian male that occurred in the ocean.
The coroner’s office has identified the man as Gustavo Esparza.
Manner of Death: Suicide
Cause of Death: Drowning
Other Significant Condition: Stab Wounds to the Chest

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 7:31 a.m.
This happened at the Santa Monica Pier while it was still somewhat dark. Sunrise was at 6:08 a.m. The decedent was seen throwing rose petals into the Pacific Ocean at some point before jumping off. Because of strong wind gusts, choppy waves and cold temperatures, it required a lot of effort on the part of the rescuers to get the body out of the water.
