Case Number: 2024-05037

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 44-year-old Black male that occurred at Men’s Central Jail downtown.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Garland Johnson.

Height: 5 feet 9 inches / Weight: 175 pounds

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy

RIP GARLAND JOHNSON III (January 12, 1980 – March 26, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 3:22 a.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on June 4.

We’re labeling this record as anomalous for the time being because SUDEP is considered a natural death and not an accident. It would be an accident if it were an unintentional drug overdose, and so far the notoriously incompetent government employees have not yet published a Cause B pertaining to any drugs.

The decedent had a rap sheet and was arrested by LAPD in January for threats of violence.

He was found lifeless inside his cell at MCJ.

Address: 441 Bauchet Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

This is the seventh in-custody death for LASD so far this year.
