RIP ELAMIR EL SAYED (August 1, 2003 – December 10, 2025)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at Los Angeles General Medical Center.
The decedent appears to have been of Egypian descent. He was in custody of LASD in downtown L.A. when he had to be taken to the emergency department of LAGMC. He had just been arrested on December 6 for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. It was a misdemeanor charge.
This was LASD’s 45th in-custody death for the year.
Opioids such as fentanyl are associated with increased morbidity and mortality in individuals with diabetes, often due to impaired treatment adherence, reduced appetite, respiratory depression, and secondary complications that can worsen glycemic instability. While opioids are not a direct cause of diabetic ketoacidosis, fentanyl may have accelerated metabolic decompensation in a patient already vulnerable to diabetic crisis.
