(L.A.) Chen Chang, 47, Died at a Residence

Case Number: 2024-03614

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 47-year-old Asian female that occurred at a residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Chen Chang.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Effects of Fentanyl and Estazolam

RIP CHEN CHANG (September 24, 1976 – February 29, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on April 10, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the substances.

Estazolam belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It acts on the brain to produce a calming effect.

Out of over 150,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, this is only the second time we’ve seen estazolam mentioned specifically as a main cause of death. The other incidence was a suicide in 2014 involving an 88-year-old white man.
