(L.A.) Carlos Lara Jr., 30, Died in a Parking Lot

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 30-year-old Latino male that occurred in a parking lot.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Carlos Lara Jr.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head

RIP CARLOS LARA JR. (November 14, 1993 – February 11, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 1:47 p.m.

The decedent was a motorist fatally shot by a security guard in the parking lot of a business in the south Los Angeles area.

LAPD said the shooting happened outside a Home Depot store at 1830 Slauson Avenue at around 1:15 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, the guard seems to have attempted to detain Lara in connection with an assault investigation, and the shooting occurred as Lara was trying to drive away.

The guard was detained at the scene, a firearm was recovered, and the investigation is continuing.
