RIP ARLENE JEAN HIMES (December 2, 1949 – December 7, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 4:00 a.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the COD ruling on February 3, presumably after the results of tox screening came back negative for substances.

2023-044

The decedent was found lifeless inside the cell she was assigned to at CDRF, which is a women’s jail located in Lynwood, California, about eight miles south of downtown L.A. She had been picked up the day before her death by Glendora Police because of a bench warrant for failure to appear in court and was being held on a misdemeanor charge with bail set at 25,000 dollars. The bench warrant appears to have been because of an allegation of “243(E)(1) – Battery On Spouse / Cohabitant / Former Spouse” made in June 2023 in the jurisdiction of the San Dimas area. The 243(E)(1) was a misdemeanor charge and she had been let out on her own recognizance.

This is the 44th in-custody death for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department in 2023.
