The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Maria Polanco Aviles.

Fatality Traffic Collision. 12:37 a.m.
Address: 3998 S Normandie Avenue
Two-vehicle collision with two persons deceased at scene.
The decedent was a sophomore at USC. She and a male companion were in a white BMW that was exiting a drive-thru restaurant on Normandie and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they were struck by a white Jeep Wrangler Rubicon driven by a man who thereafter fled the scene on foot. The suspect, Elmer Santos, 31, was later arrested at his home and is assumed to have been drunk.
