Clonidine is used to treat hypertension by relaxing blood vessels and reducing heart rate. The extended-release formulations (Kapvay, Onyda XR) are approved for treating ADHD in children and adolescents aged 6-17 years, often as part of combination therapy. It may also be used off-label for other conditions like drug withdrawal, menopausal flushing, diarrhea, spasticity, and certain pain conditions. Clonidine is available as oral tablets, extended-release tablets/suspension, and transdermal patches.
There are at least five records in the medical examiner’s office that mention clonidine.
