(L.A.) Yong Gustavson, 75, Died from a Hit-and-Run

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 75-year-old Asian female that occurred on a city street.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Yong Gustavson.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Traumatic Injuries

RIP YONG GUSTAVSON (June 27, 1948 – October 5, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 5:40 a.m.

The decedent was crossing Foothill Boulevard past Sunland Boulevard when a red pickup truck northbound on Foothill Boulevard struck her.

As she tried to get to her feet, a northbound black Toyota Tacoma on Foothill Boulevard also hit her.

The driver of the red pickup truck continued on Foothill Boulevard and did not stop to help her, as required by law.

The driver of the Tacoma did stop to help the pedestrian, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code to create a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
