(L.A.) Yolanda Harris-Lewis, 59, Died at Home

Case Number: 2020-02469

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 59-year-old Black female that occurred at her residence on East Adams Street.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Yolanda Harris-Lewis of Long Beach.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Covid-19

Other Significant Conditions: Pulmonary Sarcoidosis, Diabetes, Breast Cancer

RIP YOLANDA HARRIS-LEWIS (August 13, 1960 – March 21, 2020)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 2:11 a.m.

This is the second earliest case in the LA county medical examiner’s database where COVID was mentioned and the first where COVID was listed as the primary cause of death. The decedent was already suffering from breast cancer and diabetes.

Note that most so-called COVID deaths occur after a stay at a hospital and so do not have to go through the coroner’s office. Only deaths that require investigation by a government agency are passed through the county’s medical examiner.
