(L.A.) Yayra Rutherford, 1, Died at a Bus Stop

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a one-year-old Black female that occurred at a bus stop.

The coroner’s office identified the girl as Yayra Rutherford.

STATUS: The decedent’s body has been released. Ruling by the deputy medical examiner is deferred pending additional investigation.

Manner and cause of death will be added to this page when it becomes available.

If the DME has ordered toxicological screening, the next public update may take three to seven months.

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 10:06 a.m.

LAPD had been sent to Sepulveda and West Century Boulevard near LAX at around 10:00 AM on reports of a medical emergency. They found a homeless woman with two young children. One infant, the decedent, was found lifeless on a bus bench. The brother has been taken by the county’s Department of Children & Family Services, and the mother was interviewed by detectives. The mother had given her child Benadryl and a few hours later saw her daughter foaming at the mouth. The three have been homeless since June.
