(L.A.) Yair Segundo Cruz, 22, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 22-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital after an apparent incident of road rage in Santa Monica.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Yair Segundo Cruz.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday.

The decedent was shot in Santa Monica late Saturday night.

Police responded to 4th Street and Olympic Drive at 10:30 p.m.

Santa Monica PD’s statement:

“Preliminary information indicates the incident involved an altercation between occupants of two vehicles prior to the shooting. During the confrontation, a suspect produced a firearm and discharged at least one round, striking the victim… The suspect or suspects fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.”

The decedent was from San Lucas Ocotepéc in Mexico. His family is raising funds to repatriate his body to his home country.
