Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 65-year-old Black male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Wendell Simmons.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Ruptured Cerebral Aneurysm

Cause of Death B: Combined Effects of Hypertension and Cocaine

Cocaine use increases the risk of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm by causing acute hypertension, vasospasms, vascular inflammation, and direct toxicity to blood vessel walls, overwhelming weakened aneurysms and leading to rupture.
