Ukraine Asks Slovenia to Remove Country Flag — Looks like Russia’s 🤪

Kiev has requested that Slovenian diplomats remove their national flag from the front of their embassy in the Ukrainian capital, claiming it is too similar to the Russian flag.

Flag of Slovenia looks like the Russian flag

The national flag of Slovenia features three equal horizontal bands of white, blue, and red. Its distinguishing feature is the Coat of arms of Slovenia located in the upper hoist side of the flag centered in the white and blue bands.

🇸🇮 != 🇷🇺

Members of the Ukrainian National Guard visited Slovenian Chargé d’Affaires Bostjan Lesjak in Kiev and asked if the embassy could temporarily remove the Slovenian flag because it is too similar to the Russian one.

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations states that a foreign embassy should be allowed to display its national flag.

Update: Slovenia has taken down the flag.

A member of the EU, Slovenia has a population of 2.1 million. Ukraine has more than 40 million people.
