Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 34-year-old Black male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Tyrone Bristol.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Pseudomonas aeruginosa Pneumonia

Other Significant Condition: Cachexia (BMI 10.6 kg/m²)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday.

The decedent was severely underweight. Extreme muscle/weight loss weakens the body in ways that directly predispose one to infections like pneumonia.

P. aeruginosa is an opportunistic, gram-negative bacterium that rarely infects healthy individuals but thrives in people who are malnourished and therefrom have weakened mucosal defenses and poor cough reflex.

Cachexia weakens respiratory muscles, reducing lung clearance and promoting secretion stasis, which favors Pseudomonas colonization.
