Case Number: 2023-14847

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 31-year-old Latino male that occurred on a cruise ship.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Tulio Goncalves Lacerda.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Methylenedioxymethamphetamine and Fentanyl Toxicity

RIP TULIO GONÇALVES LACERDA (September 9, 1992 – October 30, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 9:00 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on December 12, presumably after the results of tox screening came back positive for the drugs. This was an accidental overdose.

The decedent’s family moved to the United States from Brazil in 2015. He served for three years in the U.S. Army until early 2023 and remained in the reserves. He had acquired his green card and recently received citizenship.

After returning to California from a cruise in Mexico, he was found lifeless in a room of the ship together with his boyfriend Jason Aguirre Jennings, also dead. Neither one’s body showed any apparent signs of violence or foul play.
