(L.A.) Tony Green, 51, Died in a Hospital Operating Room

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 51-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred in a hospital operating room.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Tony Green.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Hemorrhagic Shock

Cause of Death B: Lacerated Splenic Artery

Cause of Death C: Laparoscopic Gastrectomy Sleeve, Attempted

Cause of Death D: Morbid Obesity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

The “Lacerated Splenic Artery” and subsequent hemorrhagic shock resulted from an attempted “Laparoscopic Gastrectomy Sleeve,” which is a surgical procedure. Since the injury to the splenic artery happened during this medical procedure, it would be classified as an iatrogenic injury—that is, an injury caused by medical intervention, specifically surgery.

Iatrogenic injuries are often unintentional complications of medical treatment.
